Floorplans

It's been discussed several times before, but never really been attempted. So here is my first WIP attempt at a Tatooine House. It's still being modified, so this will probably change drastically before the last incarnation.

I don't mean to nit pick but most of Tatooine's buildings have a circular part.

Yes, but on many houses, that circular part is a dome on a rectangular first floor.

indeed, also bear in mind that Specter has not made an exterior view of this building...yet, I assume.

Re: Floorplans

There seemed to be plenty of square buildings in the towns (Mos Eisly and Mos Espa), so I don't think a square building is out of line here. This could be a great new way to go. Ship deckplans are the exciting "sexy" part of the game, but players and GMs are likely to need floorplans for buildings more often. This fits well with the trend of the pre-fab outposts. I'll let you guys know how this stuff works out in the games I run, and I encourage anyone here who runs or participates in a game to do likewise.

This is very true. I posted a house plan long ago and Servo posted a cantina. I am currently working on the apartment from Hideouts & Strongholds.

We tend to focus on ships and military stuff and neglect what makes up the bulk of the environment- basic boring buildings. Or B3 for short. emoticon

I had a GM do a map to a city once(6 or 7 sq. miles). He didn't have a great amount of detail, but it made the whole scenario pop.

Hey Specter, I wonder where that cool looking XP-38 speeder came from? emoticon

Not bad so far. If you're going to develop Tattooine houses, however, keep in mind that the design style is based heavily on Tunisian architecture... and the Lars homestead is based on Berber troglodyte dwellings in North Africa. In both instances, the idea is to keep the inside cool during the day yet retain its warmth during the night.

There is a book called The Art Of Star Wars: Episode I by Jonathan Bresman, and it has an entire section dedicated to Tattooine conceptual artwork. If you can find it, it's a great read. There's also the book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy by James Luceno -- it's a sister book to the "Incredible Cross Sections" books but it deals with buildings and locations (including the Lars homestead, Ben Kenobi's house, and the Mos Eisley Cantina).

Oh, and another down-and-dirty alternative would be to check out The DungeonCrafter Download Page. It's a Windows-only program, but it's a good tool when you need to do a quick floorplan of something.

In another attempt to sponge up all the possible information for a new game I’m starting I thought I would bump this topic up to see if anyone had any new stuff to add.
