Tiree.. that kicks ass... in the best way possible.. I haven't played HERO in a bit but it's a good system.. I'm a big fan of the d20.. played the d6 for awhile .. even ran it once.. I just hate the 'handfull of d6s' game system.. my love hate relationship with Shadowrun is based on this as well.. love the game hate the handfull of d6s..

Yes, a handful of OTHER die types is SO much better... Blech!

I genuinely believe Uwe Boll could've done a better job with the prequels.

we currently play the D20 WotC version
Got my taste for the game a lot of years ago when it was the WEG d6 version.

No typically just a d20.. then damage dice.. .it's a real easy system... but some fail to see that in it... not my problem.. I think what people fail to realize is that 'd20' has really been around for the last 30 or so years.. I started in the late 70s... and we all can relate to the 'roll the d20.. and then the damage dice' routine of the good ole days.. just my version.. not always shared by others.

oneway - It's actually pretty easy to deal with d6's if you get a brick. That is what I did, 36 dice in a small cube.

That is probably why I don't deal with more than 20d6 at a time also. But it is no better than White Wolf and the d10 system it uses.

As for WotC it is simplistic d20 system just like Palladium. And trust me it is ugly tossing 18d10x2 for starship damage. So WotC does have the high number of dice too.

RPG's you throw dice. That is all there is to it. What kind of dice really doesn't matter, they are dice. They are a tool to help tell a story

Yes emoticon And the best RP Sessions for me usually were, when no or few Dice got rolled. A Friend of mine actually gmed a Campaign (not SW though) completly without Dice/Rules.

I personally prefer Silhouette (Heavy Gear) or the normal D6 for Star Wars, though in general i prefer Silhouette since its faster, though not as detailed.

Re: What RPG System Do You Use

I think that is why I like the Hero System more and more. Most of the players are not too eager at going into combat with this system. It is cumbersome to them (not me), and so we do more clandestine or RPing in the system.

It is probably one of the reason I play more scoundrel/thief/scumbag type characters. More RP and less combat. If I can sneak around and get the job done, then I don't need to kill anyone.

In fact the last SWd20 campaign I was in, I primarily used Stun. Why? If I killed then they would hunt me down even more. If they knew I would just knock them out, they would play nicer against us also. This was my theory - but stun has problems in d20. Sometimes it was more effective to just use the kill setting. Especially when you are talking professional classes not Hero Classes. (Also Stun is one of the best ways to get a Jedi to submit! It pissed off one player so much he basically quit! That was so freaking funny!)

But again - throwing dice helps advise how the story is going to be played out. One of the easyiest things to do in d20 is min/max your character. I tend to like playing a pilot. None of the other players really care, and they want to kill. So my niche is to be their chauffer in a way - but they need to deal with my antics. So by 10th level you end up with a piloting ability of +20, what manuever are you going to fail? practically none! The only one that can get me is the Hyperspace Modifier table! Ugh!

Tiree.. you acctually have a good point there.. I really just didn't like the WEG version of the game..

I tend to run games that the players end up not rolling alot for.. I run Twilight 2000/Merc 2000 games and I usually only have players roll dice during combat or if i feel the story needs a random event.. and picking up a d20 usually ends up as the most random thing around.. I have a group that will drop everything they are doing if I say the magic words.. 'I got this idea for a MERC game...' and they end up loving it.. not to pat my own back too much, but they do compliment my games moreso that others in our gameing group..

I agree that min/max is an issue in d20.. hell i'd be lieing if I didn't.. but it's not how I play my characters.. I think the min/max croud is missing out.. I personally like to build a well rounded character. because you survive that way, or at least I do.. and we end up burying the min/max guys.. c'est la vie...

Re: What RPG System Do You Use

We rarely use any dice and rules, but if we do we use a rule system based on w8, called X-Punk, which was originally developed as a cyberpunk rpg system. Works excellent for Star Wars unlike D20, where Maul could never have killed Qui Gon (not that I cared), Luke could never have defeated Vader (I would care) and Rukh would have had many problems killing Thrawn with a single knife stab (hm... perhaps D20 is not so bad...*g*).
