Avatar Size

This was originally in the management section, but I was wondering if anyone wanted larger avatar images. For example, the current size of avatars is locked at 60x60, but the max limit is 500 x 500. Now that is far too big, but please choose a selection in the poll and let me know in the comments what you think.

I think the 180x180 wouldn't be bad but I voted for the 120x120 because I think it would be the best size...just feels right emoticon

Thanks Murrdohk, you might have a point. now that I posted the visual aid, it helps to gauge the size a lot better. What I don't want is the avatar to push the screen over, so I think maximum size should not exceed 180 but 120 does look like the sweet spot if people want more detailed avatars.

Re: Avatar Size

Well, interestingly, I just took a screen cap of the forum to see how wide the margins are and they are about 271 pixels....the thing is I really don't think we need avatars that big. Even Discord doesn't do that so I think thre absolute max should be 180. but I still think that 120 x 120 is not too ostentatious. I'd love to hear others chime in and discuss.

Re: Avatar Size

Now that I think of it, this would be a perfect excuse to make custom SWDA Avatars for our members especially at the higher 120 or 180 resolution. I think we can make something really cool - especially with talented folks like Kal Argos who are great at character design, we could have some pretty cool looking stuff.

what do you guys think of that, or should I start a new thread called "custom avatars"?

Thank you Lucas for the kind words. 120x120 seems right to me... any ideas for special avatars?

I wonder if m40 scale figs would work.... i cant remember how tall they were.... but I think they could fit that 120x120 area.

No worries man. emoticon
M40 characters for special avatars. Maybe we can start a new thread to explore custom avatars and the like as it might be related to the SWDA ranks and such - though this would not really be the same thing....hmm, potentially a lot to discuss on that front.

Here are a bunch more avatar tests. I made the lettering as a separate layer, so these titles can be used on any background.
