Knights of the Old Republic I & II

I just started KotOR II (it's a tradition of mine to start couple new games at new year). Haven't yet really gotten into it.

I played the first some years back and, considering it's reputation as one of best games ever, I was pretty disappointed.
Have to admit western RPGs aren't my top genre. Along last decade I've also played Baldur's Gate 1&2 - similarly disappointing (except Throne of Bhaal) - and Fallout 1. But while I didn't enjoy Fallout as much as someone else might, I can see why Fallout is so highly thought of; BGs and KotOR I don't quite understand.

I felt KotOR was too linear and limited. I haven't read any comics or books that were set to Old Republic history, so I don't know if the plot of these games connects to any of those. But I don't think the story was very memorable, as I don't remember much of it.

I mostly pick my games from flea markets - my hardware is so old I could hardly run anything less than 10 years old - so it's whatever I happen to find. Since I came by KotOR II I decided to give it a chance, even if the first didn't impress me. (And it's some years since I've played a western RPG.)

I liked Kotor I. It's what established Bioware as a good developer before Mass Effect (which made it great).

Kotor 2 is a bit of a mixed bag. If you didn't like the experience of Kotor, you will not enjoy Kotor 2. it was made by a different developer (Obsidian if memory serves) and as I recall, the developer was forced to release the game to ofast which meant that a lot of content was unfinished or completely missing, so there are holes in the plot that you could fly an ISD through, but if you liked Kotor 1, it will feel familiar and generally enjoyable.

Obsidian is a great developer - they most recently made the Outer Worlds, which (pardon the pun) is Stellar!

I hope you like Kotor 2.
