Orthographic Projection
This thread is intended to be where we discuss the principles of Orthographic projection.
I think that in the end we will have a complete guide on how to properly set up the drawings in a standardized form, and show a FAQ of sorts on tricks and techniques to create the ultimate blueprints.
regards,
Lucas

Re: Orthographic Projection
The Basics:-
First Angle Projection
Third Angle Projection
--- It was not certain what significance the ceremony held... but the formality was no less sacred for it being unintelligible.

Re: Orthographic Projection
Okay. I have something that I am finding incredibly useful to show a 3d visualization of orthographics in a cost effective way.
First and foremost, I am a gamer and a lego nut. So imagine my glee when I discovered that the latest update to Lego Worlds has a sandbox mode.
Long story short, as a test, I am working on my R2D2 drawing and was always annoyed by the way the MSPaint does circles, as they typically require manual alteration after creation.
So I built 2 versions of the dome in lego worlds and found the reason I was having such a rough time projecting lines onto a sphere (or hemisphere in this case).
When I first made the R2 drawing, I was using 2d elevation and struggling with panel lines and (I hate to admit) eyeballed the construction lines so that they "looked" right. Now I will have them 100% correct.
Interestingly, this same technique can be used in minecraft as well, but the scale is more manageable in Lego worlds, in my opinion.
Does anyone have any other thoughts on simple assistance tools for orthographic drawings in our chosen medium?

Re: Orthographic Projection
1: Lego rules
2: I am entering the world of 3D printing, and am playing with Blender... That has both projection view that distorts the object as we would see it, and orthographic view.
When I get home from vacay I'll take screen cap. We can also come up with simple drawing in 3D that can be used as a tutorial...
