Re: YT-1300/Millennium Falcon WIP

So yeah... unfortunately no update to the drawing... I know, that sucks... but its been a busy year... and my computer stinks, and life with kids.. what can I do...

But rest assured, I have not given up on finishing this.

Now what I do have is some crazy info...

What if I told you the top hatch could be on the starboard side... I know ... that's crazy... but I was introduced to some info this week that made me rethink this..

So the first image is of the screen capture and I brightened the image so we could see hull detail..

Image

The second, I highlighted hull detail..

Image

So what have I done...

The red lines indicate hull plating lines...

The pink rhombus is details that align with the 5ft Falcon ILM model starboard side.

The blue arrow is odd lighting on detail I cannot figure out at this time ... unless its the junction of the mandible to the hamburger section.. that means port side?

What does the picture show... If this is not reverse filmed or it is not shot aft to foreward, then the hull plating and and docking arm details indicate this as the starboard side of the Falcon, thus the upper hatch that Lando uses is on the starboard side.

What doesn't jive with this is that fact that the bump in the hull that contains the hallway to the cockpit is missing. It should be visible in this shot based on the location of the hatch... see highlighted image below:

Image

So, while certain model details change between shots, missing hallway tube is a big one. To be fair this could be trickery based on lens or croping or something... I have a hard time believing the hallway tube would not be visible in this shot... so what does that mean.

If memory serves correctly... this hatch shot was a specific minature... so some details could've been omitted for this shot. They only built what was needed to tell the story... okay...

But we still need to consider the whole picture if we forgive the pun here...

Here is a deleted scene photo of Lando helping Luke

Image

This is clearly the port side... though not explicitly canon this does go to the intent of where this action was intended to take place.. and in my view, valid evidence for determining the hatch location.

The white cord attached to Lando is the safety line he attaches just before popping out of the hatch. The direction of the safety line clearly indicates that the hatch is on the port side.

Having Luke fall on the port side and Lando use a port side hatch makes logical sense. It would be very risky to have Luke fall on the port side, and have Lando emerge on the starboard side and cross the ship to reach him. This adds risk to an already dangerous situation... Its windy, Luke is injured.. and TIEs are closing in.. makes sense to have the hatch as close to Luke as possible to get him in safely and the Falcon on its way.

Pros for Starboard side hatch
- hull detail matches starboard if shot as is seen
- some hull detail matches starboard docking ring

Pros for Port side hatch
- if starboard, where is the hull detail of the hallway to the cockpit?
- Lando motions in the tube are more aligned with him expecting to emerge port side
- deleted scene image showing the action is taking place on the port side
- deleted scene image shows safety line leading to port hatch area.
- if the hatch is starboard, then the upper hatch tube would be visible in the main egress ramp, no detail exists for this in the ramp shots in ESB.

With all this in consideration, I still believe the upper hatch seen in ESB is located on the port side docking arm section.

I wanted to present this to be fair, honest about new info, and get opinions on this...

And in researching this I found this nifty behind the scenes shot of them filming Lando going up the hatch tube... first time I've ever seen this...

Enjoy ...

I'm sure using a forklift to raise Billy Dee Williams up to the hatch totally doesn't violate OSHA regs...

Don't get excited... no big update here... just switching my images to imgur so i re-re-re populate this site with pictures again... stupid photobucket

Any whooo.. this was my last version before i got busy.

THe good news is I've been playing with paint.net enough that I feel confident to get some work going again.

So I will be updating the escape pod set -up etc for this design This is based on the TLJ where the escape pod is actually shown and where it comes out. However, there is no way in H-E -double hockey sticks I'll have them come out from below the main engine... WTF?!!?!?... I'll likely have them come out of the side greebly stuff aft starboard quarter part. And go with the coffin like escape pod.

Does anybody have screen grabs of those those scenes that show the escape pod or the ejection site? I only saw the movie once... and I vaguely remember what happened... I just was dumbfounded the pod came out below the engine... like WTF was that...??? but anyways... lets try to work with what we see..

Below is a link to the image

Millenniumf1138, thanks for images.... are you new? If so welcome on board!!!

These are great images. I'll use these to get the internals situated... i think i remember a behind the scenes construction shot that I may use. I'll have to find it again... likely on the rpf. My initial guess is a small hallway off the main circular halway headed aft starboard, that may have 1 door to a small cargo room (above the egress ramp) and 1 door leading to engine room?

I cannot understand why they have pod exiting under the engine and it looks like right where the aft landing gear is???... so im thinking I'll need to have it shoot out the greeblie ring (aft starboard) maybe or maybe there is hull plating detail i can use as a door or something...

Okay

Anyways these are great pics... thanks so much!

Any suggestions or questions on what has been drawn so far?

So Lucas pointed out to me that my images... in all posts are now fuzzy thanks to photobucket.... they appear fine on my phone... but i have started using imgur and will begin the process of moving all of my images there and updating my posts...

I usually work on a big sheet and i haven't foundva way to post a thumbnail with a direct link... si I apologize in advance as the image will bump the sides... braking my own posted images rules... so there's that irony for now...

actually, I think imgur does allow for thumbnails. There is a way to use bbcode to embed a link in a thumbnail. hit me up with a pm and I will show you Kal.
