YT-1300/Millennium Falcon WIP

So... it has been a while for an update.

To sum the project so far....

The basis of this came from Robert Brown, Lucas Pichette, Tek Eridani (my bro and Falcon fanatic) and a lot of research of set and ILM model images.

The rules were to mesh all references to a workable representation of the Millennium Falcon :

1) Reference canon set images and ILM models first
2) Combine differences when references contradict
3) If no reference use design ethic of Corellian design
4) Use logical design principles to develop unknown areas of the ship
5) Compromise on major flaws/set contradictions using logical design principles
6) Have fun emoticon

I by no means claim this to be "THE" Falcon, just my representation of it.

Debated issues:

Placement of escape pods.

Here is the latest update:

If anybody knows how to do thumbnails let me know... but here is a mini image (EDIT PVS28Nov19: Thanks Lucas.. thumbnail should link to Large image)

Image

New stuff:

Hull color was determined to be gull grey so you'll see shading tests...

Greebly details to top view specifically the "jaw" area based on ILM models... ESB and ANH differ slightly. Once completed they will be translated in other views.

As always comments and suggestions are always welcome...

I found this clip and thought it might help.

Slay,

It is so great to see the Falcon built again... looks great!

And the batmobile is now a greeblie.. nice touch! emoticon

Thanks for the kind words... I'll continue to update the Falcon with the greeblies... I'll try not to wait so long between posts... but it will depend on the strength of the update.

I know Klick had mentioned his preference for a pez like escape pod dispenser so I may try to work up a SWDA version of it.

Thanks again...

Re: YT-1300/Millennium Falcon WIP

Okay update time.

I noticed a copy paste error fixed that.

I've finished the "jaw box" top top view details ... just the "jaw box" ... I've also started placing the greeblies on the mandibles.

In starting that work I've noticed that it will be easier to do that detailing and the rest of the greeblies on the hull if I put the hull plating in place.

Why?

Once I put the hull plating details in I can use that as a guide to place the greeblies more accurately.

So my focus now is on hull plating and putting that in.

In starting that work I've corrected the size of the trapezoid cut outs in the back section and have finished all the removed panels and open hull areas in all views... even that odd shape area near the cockpit. That odd little shape changes from model to model, movie to movie... so it finally ended up with the SW:Ep V shape... why? ... the mishappened look, feel and overall asymmetry felt like it fit best with the Falcon... that and it was an average of the overall shape and size...

Here is the link to the full view:

As always suggestions, corrections or questions always welcome....

And mini image for quick view (please excuse the length of the image):

Looking real good, Kal! Are you shading this in 5+2? If so, why not 9+2?

Thanks Slay..

So I'm about to reveal a terrible terrible truth... I don't believe I've ever used the 5+2 or 9+2... >GASP!<

what does the "+2" mean is that like RPG when you have Charisma +2 ... emoticon

If I have, I have gone about in my own way and just arrived there. >GASP!< >GASP!<

When I get to the final shading I'll finalize my shading plans... I just was curious about color... so I was doing shading tests. Any who....

Well, I've been trying to find the shading write up but I can't find it. The +2, as I can recall, is the lines and intersections (black and almost black).

Re: YT-1300/Millennium Falcon WIP

So i did see the tutorial by Lucas on here... and i remember it. i think i used it as a base when i first started shading... but ive got my own method. i should post that on this site.

So, um, to keep this on track with the YT-1300/Millennium Falcon ... I'd just want to state that this current WIP will only reflect the original trilogy Falcon.

What if any changes/additions the new star wars movies may or may not make to the Falcon will not be reflected in this deckplan. If changes are made it will be reflected in future posts after material is studied.

DO NOT post any spoiler material, do not dicuss anything from the teaser, the trailors, leaked photos, etc IN THIS THREAD. If so they will be deleted and warning given to the postee. Please post those items in the appropriate thread.

Alrighty...

Re: YT-1300/Millennium Falcon WIP

Just to show that there is some progress on this thread...

I have completed ... I think ... the hull plating lines on the top gunwell area and starboard side. The greeblies have not been added and there are a ton of those.... and grease lines to be added to get to ILM model accuracy. I have not translated these lines to the other views...

Again this only the top starboard view only...

And I'll again point out that these are an blending of all details seen in the movies...

Oh and I noticed an error in the Haynes Falcon book.. the gun well window structure is oriented incorrectly in the book... the main struts do not align exactly "north and south" as in the Haynes book.

So that's all I'll post....

As always... corrections or suggestions always welcome.
